I was listening to John Williams' score to "Superman: the Movie" a few weeks ago, and remembered that the spoken word bit Margot Kidder does over the Love Theme in the flying scene was originally supposed to be sung. I am not embarrassed to say that I have seen the movie and listened to the album enough times to have memorized the words, but it only just then occurred to me to think about whether they matched the melody.
The lyrics do match the music, syllable for note, and so I must express my heartfelt thanks to Kidder, Richard Donner, Alexander and Ilya Salkind or whoever it was that decided they would work much better as Lois' spoken word inner monologue. As it is, the convention caused the scene to be pretty dated, but if this Maureen McGovern version had been in the film it would have strayed much too far over into "Xanadu" territory.

Just finished watching "I Am Legend." Things that contribute to my opinion of the film:
1. I have never seen "the Omega Man."
2. I have never read the Richard Matheson book.
3. I have seen "the Homega Man" on the Simpsons.
4. We just finished watching "Aftermath: Population Zero" (based on the book of the same name) a couple days ago.
I am not going to be longwinded here. Just going to say that I enjoyed it, however implausible. And before anyone complains about the happy ending, bear in mind that it's loaded; there are still 5.99 billion dead humans.
Oh, and there is no single type of American grenade that explodes with that much incendiary force. Especially not the M67. Fucking artistic license.
